Brimming with attacking talent, Spartak Moskva have loaned Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to Portsmouth of England’s Premier League. The mercurial striker / left-winger showed well for Valery Karpin in the later stages of the most recent campaign but with the Krasno-belye well stocked with talent his playing time would have been greatly diminished and loan was decided on as the best case scenario.

In joining Avram Grant’s deeply troubled Portsmouth side, the Ghanaian attacker will feature immediately as they try to pull off the “great escape”. Portsmouth, laden with financial debt that has seen players wages delayed on a number of occasions are presently mired at the bottom of the Premier League table, five points from safety. Beyond on-pitch problems, the 2008 FA Cup champions are facing down a dark road of financial matters with HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) that could result in administration and a subsequent point deduction appears very likely.
