Edgaras ČesnauskisIn Russian Cup round of sixteen, Dynamo Moscow defeated Volga Nizhny Novgorod 4-1 at Arena Khimki.

Coming off their Saturday’s loss to Saturn Moskovskaya Oblast, Dynamo Moscow manager Miodrag Božović made three changes to his line-up with Vladimir Granat, Andriy Voronin and Martin Jakubko coming in for Denis Kolodin, Adrian Ropotan and Kevin Kurányi.

The First Division side, led by for Omari Tetradze took the shock lead nine minutes shy of the break as Sergei Yashin surged down the right channel before sending a cross to the near post that Otar Martsvaladze nodded into the net. Seven minutes later, Edgaras Česnauskis levelled the affair as latched onto a loose ball in the area that came off the visiting goalkeeper Anton Kochenkov and calmly turned it into the net.

Igor SemshovAfter the break, the visitors were enjoying a good spell before Dynamo took the 2-1 as Igor Semshov unleashed a drive from twenty-five metres that skipped past the goalkeeper. With sixteen minutes remaining in regulation time, Dynamo doubled its lead as Tomislav Dujmović latched onto Dmitri Polyanin’s attempted clearance of a cross from the right and sent a booming volley into the back of the net. Two minutes later, Aleksandr Samedov put the match out of reach as after leading an assault on the right with Andriy Voronin, he received the ball back in the area and sent it to the near post, giving Dynamo Moscow the reaffirming 4-1 victory.

Saturn Moskovskaya Oblast gave their home supporters in Ramenskoe something to boost their optimism as Marko Topić led them to a 2-1 victory over Luch-Energiya Vladivostok. The veteran Bosnia and Herzegovina international had missed the entire campaign to injury until returning on the weekend against Dynamo in a late substitute appearance. Saturn manager Andrei Gordeev deployed the always-dangerous attacker in the starting eleven and saw his strike twice before the twenty-fifth minute. Aleksei Zhdanov was able to claw one goal back just past the half-hour but that was as close as it would get as Saturn Moskovskaya Oblast lodged the 2-1 victory.

In other action, Rostov defeated visiting Volgar-Gazprom Astrakhan 2-0 thanks to Aleksandr Pavlenko’s two-goal performance.

Alaniya Vladikavkazv overcame Gornyak Uchaly but it was not easy at it took Vladimir Shevchuk’s a penalty shootout to defeat the Second Division side.
